My Fur coat

A little while back I got the hankering to make a fur coat. Initially I wanted to buy one but as usual I created quite a specific list of requirements that meant I couldn’t find just the right one. So, I took myself down to Berwick Street in central London and went to one of my favourite fabric shops. An here, almost immediately, I found the most luxe fabric I had ever come across. So thick and sumptuous and looked a lot like a wolf fur (NOT REAL OF COURSE). The technology behind fake fur fabrics these days is so good it would be my first choice every time.

Anyway, I got home and started to freestyle together my coat… What I had not anticipated was the extreme fluff that came away as you cut and sew. Every inch of my flat was covered in a thick fur dust. The thickness of the material was quite difficult to work with so the shape of the overall coat was dominated by this, I would have maybe liked skinnier arms.

In the end I was really happy with it. It’s a totally gorgeous coat that makes me feel uber glamorous (if a little over the top) and most importantly WARM and snugly. When I go out in the winter time the one thing I cannot be is cold but this usually means covering up with fifty thousand layers until there are just a pair of eyes poking out of a tangled mass of knits and fleece and furs… Problem now solved!

to explain: round my house, if you like something A LOT, then you are gay for it. it's a term of absolute endearment, for example: I am gay for birds, tree's, pens and sci-fi. Not only does it mean you like something but it means you are also a little obsessed with it.

morning all. I love September. It don't mess about. Gets stuck right in to autumn to the very day. I like autumn. You know where you stand with a season like autumn. Summers are so disappointingly random it's nice to have a little consistency for a while. Anyway. In a moment of despair the other night, I was telling a friend about having drawing ache, I think I had been drawing for the best part of each day for about 9 days at that point. I was a little low. So he wrote me a poem:

i have drawing ache
i badly need a drawing brache
i always mache the same mistache
i think it's time for chokolate cache

Such an inspiring place to be, so many beautiful things happening, shapes and patterns, colours and sounds... and at the end of the day I got to pick some fresh kale and watercress. This is another of my latest project... I am drawing portraits of the faces people pull when you stick a camera in front of their face and say "quick, pull a stupid face" - this is their first response. Usually these photo's take place while the person is drunk too, less inhibited I think but much more compliant with the face pulling. Not sure where this will lead me at the moment but that's the beauty of starting new work... not to worry though, still working on my other projects, this is yet another pie for my many fingers.

A warm welcome to '2008' hopefully this year will last longer than 2007 which seemed only to last about three weeks, so much to do - so little time. I always love this time of year though, so exciting, making full use of the 'time off' over Christmas to create a my 2008 colour coded comprehensive list of things to do, a few of you reading this will know what I am talking about - others will just think of me as a nerd and in many ways you are right, but I have big plans for this year and I am already looking forward to the numerous exciting projects I have ahead of me, also hopefully this year will see the sanctuary of wilderness screen printing studio and workshop up and running. So, keep your eyes peeled for any news over the coming months.
